The pile has begun in the dining room. Just 4 days to go before we hit the road. Can't wait! Day 1 is in the bag.... Thursday night, Sleep Inn... Lincoln Nebraska. DAY 1, AUGUST 30TH, 2008: I DROVE UP TO BALTIMORE, MD (BWI) TO PICK UP MY AUNT MARGARET (TN) & COUSIN PAT (AL) AT THE AIRPORT. AFTER WE FINALLY FOUND EACH OTHER WE WALKED A MILE TO THE CAR AND BEGAN OUR JOURNEY. FIRST OF ALL, I HAD TOLD THEM NOT TO EAT ANYTHING FOR WE WERE NEAR ONE OF THE BEST SEAFOOD RESTAURANTS AROUND THIS AREA. SO WE HEADED DOWN TO LITTLE ITALY IN THE BALTIMORE HARBOUR AREA AND ATE AT MOE'S IT WAS FANTASTIC OF COURSE AND THEN WE WALKED UP TO VACCARRO'S ITALIAN BAKERY. NYC IN SEPTEMBER

We wake up in Kansas City at 4:00 a.m. and by 6:15 we were in the air toward Hartford, Ct. by way of Detroit. Our connecting flight was delayed an hour. This trip is so tightly planned that any delay means cancelling part of that day's activities. We land in Hartford and within 20 minutes are entering the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA. We spent two hours here and helped out their souvenir shop. From here we drove through MA into Rhode Island to eat at Evelyn's Drive Inn in Tiverton. Our flight was on time and first class. The four and a half hours went rather quickly. We picked up our Nissan Murano and headed to our Holiday Inn Express Suite in Tacoma. First of all , you need a lot of energy to do it this way.Arrive to LA early morning of Tuesday and collect minivan.Set GPS for Kawada hotel in LA. Eat, rest and wash. Drive around LA and end up in Hollywood.Nice place. NOTE: I took byways for most of these destinations, but most are accesible by highways and exits. Though to get true Americana, the blacktop monsters aren't the best way. CHICAGO, IL to HUNTINGTON, IN Route: Take U.S. 41 (Lake Shore Drive) South. We took a red eye to Philadelphia, so day 1 was little more than a bad flight that was late and crowded. We checked into the Fairfield Inn at 2:30am, the staff was very courteous and understanding. We slept in after our late flight, we packed up and headed out the door of the hotel in Philadelphia and almost turned right around.
