Kentucky trip plans

July 3, 2007 We have travelled over 900 miles in the last three days. Our first camp was in West Virginia (Gerald R. Freeman Campground; Sutton, WV)... Day two brought <B>us</B> to My Old <B>Kentucky</B> Home State Park in Bardstown, KY. Day three brought <B>us</B> to our first real stop along the way... Mammoth Cave National Park. MCNP was spectacular. We took a two hour tour through the most historic parts of the cave. Mammoth Cave is truly "Mammoth" with over 367 miles of recorded passages. I got up early this morning wanting to be on the road at 6 in the morning. We did not end up leaving until 10 am. It seems that my daughter was having a hard time leaving her cat. It took about 11/2 hours for her to give the instructions on how the cat needed to be taken care of while we were gone. Then a whole bunch of little things kept popping up that delayed <B>us</B>. First stop on the journey was Big Bone Lick State Park which is just across the river in <B>Kentucky</B>. It is a beautiful park detailing the fossles and digs of the area. They also have live Bison that you can watch, which my kids really enjoyed. They thought they were "cool", and so did I to be honest. It's a really neat park and we are going back this summer. We set out at 2pm. After loading up the car with our luggage and a huge bag of snacks. Do you think we had enough? But it's raining here and we are looking forward to some fun in the sun. So we set out, our first state is Indiana. We left Central IL at 7am and traveled all day. The drive was uneventful really. We encountered snow in <B>Kentucky</B> which in some places the interstate was down to one lane but the traffic wasn't that bad. We left the GA visitors center in North GA around 4pm to pick up information on the GA Aquarium and places to stay in downtown Atlanta for our trip back. Just packed my bags this morning. Of course I was almost late for my bus, but my mother gave me a ride to the stop. Had a half-day at work and then heading over to the rapid station. We would be taking my car, '97 Chevy Lumina LS, down to L-ville. It was convenient that the Brookpark rapid station wasn't far from I-71 S. We left early in the morning with each of <B>us</B> taking 2 hour shifts. I took the first one and had no sun to contend with! We stopped for lunch in Memphis.
