The cog railway is a little pricey, but once we got to the top we realized it was worth it. Driving would be fun but only one way. There's not much to do at the top except gasp for air and realize how small we are on this planet as you take in the AMAZING views. If you think you are dressed warm enough, bring an extra jacket anyway. Not only is it cold up there, but the thin air makes it feel even colder.
We saw some big horn sheep on the way up and they were even closer to the train on the way down.
There is a running commentary on the way up that is fairly informative. Breaks up the hour each way.

Century after century, water persisted against rock, leaving behind a crystalline trail. As stone gave way to space, a cave was born. Cave of the Winds is an underground mansion of rooms and passages, decorated with limestone stalactites and flowstone curtains. Jewels of nature that took centuries to form are preserved in the spectacular sights at Cave of the Winds. Nestled among the foothills of Colorado's Rocky Mountains this magnificent cavern system and scenic canyon chronicle over 200 million years of geological history. Informative guides lead you through one of three distinct caverns systems explaining their formations and their history as one of Colorado's premier attractions. Bring your camera!
