As I stepped into the dark room intense searing pain shot theough my foot  as if thosand cold needles

pricking at the same time.A gasp escaped from my lips and it woke my fuzzy senses and I began to take stock of

my surroundings-I was at the Darjeeling lodge and I had just stepped on the bathrom tile barefoot. The pain

continued and I had enough sense to go back and rest my numb feet (I could realy imagine what bollywood

actresses must be going through when asked to dance in you know what in Switzerland).I looked out and

Kanchenjunga glistening in  morning sun alleviated all my pain.As the sun rays fell on it and the panoramic

colours displayed on it can even  make you know who smile despite of being himself ( the references are

becoming obvious ). I went out and sat on the balcony overlooking the beautiful rainbow like town wrapped in

blankets trying to soak in thespectacle unfolding before my eyes. The sun was slowly climbing up; the trees were

gently swaying ; the chill was caressing my body; as if the nature was standing  in  defiance of the gentle

sun.The dawn wasjust turning into a glorious day and the surroundings looked splendid. As I walked down from

the lodge the road winding down took me to a big  squarewhere some were soaking the beauty while some

were leisurely chatting while drinking coffee ; some were on a small pony getting ready for a small roundabout

trip.I stood under the shade of awillow trees smoking a cigarette the smoke making small glorios circles and

looked at the small cottages dotting the mountainside -all made from wood and standing precariously at the

edges ; winding steps led to their gates. The road looked lovely as it went round and round arond the houses

gardens -somewhat like a asphalt coloured snake that has wrapped itself around a small greenish

red-brownish ant hill.I continued my ramblings and with an eye for food continued down.It seems surprising but

in Darjeeling the small shops are adorned with such beauty that it wasabsolutely impossible to tear myself away

from them had my growling stomach not come between.I went into a quaint little resturant and quickly finished

my breakfast .When I stepped out the sun had already come  up and children were walking towards their

schools adorned in colourful scarves and woolens. It was a pleasant sight to see this maze of colours. Many

college students were holding hands and sitting on the benches- the climate being too conducive for romance.

The small shops were closeted near to one another and bustling with customers.Women wearing colourful

dresses were sewing and selling everything from Che's skullcaps to Cobain's teeshirts to buddhist paintings

to small bells made up of brass, masks and funky jewewllery.I was amazed to see the women here being  very

educated and well dressed. The shops were bustling with customers and children haggling with the

shopkeepers .People went in and out and a man was selling shawls on the street itself  shouting at the top of

his voice and blocking half the path. These small temporary shops filled the  street on both sides.I slowly made

my  way through  the  crowds  to the  zoo....
