i recently visited Sanchi which is around 50 km. from Bhopal. it was a cloudy day with occassional showers. the overcast sky looked as if it had almost descended. there was a saga of beauty told in stone. we were told that the stupa was constructed sometime in 3rd Century B.C.There were additions to this monument over time and uptill 9-10 Century AD. and then suddenly the entire place got forgotton / lost. it became buried deep inside the jungles until a British gentleman chanced upon the site sometime in the middle of the 19th Century. the stupa does not contain any relic....but the place is sacchi amazing!

The Gateway....or the get.away?

Is it all about transcending boundaries....of this world?

Notice the pali script on the top block? These are interlocked stones....

The niche for interlocking stones. Are we all interlocked, in some ways?

The wheel / chakra that goes round and round....like us...like this world....

The sky and the earth....the cosmos and this world....

Let us pray....even as some talk...

to climb the stairway to heaven....

and revere the feet with the chakras....

so that the windows of night....the windows of darkness....

become the windows of light!

Let us be headless.....it could be a heady feeling.....to have no ego...

maybe then the world will twirl arund our finger....

and the elephant will prance....the damsel will dance....

and the kalpavriksha will expand....!!!

This is a temple of our thoughts....

Our tall aspirations to reach You....

The world is light on our shoulders....

The gate is well guarded....

...for only those who are headless can enter ....
