Chinese food in China
Whenever we talk about china then two things immediately comes to our mind and those are Chinese food and Low cost goods. Of course now the happenings in Lahsa is hogging the headlines. So when I went to Quingdao via Shanghai then I was looking forward to tasting authentic Chinese Chilly Chicken,Chicken Manchurian, Hakka Noodle etc but to my surprise found those are our own concoction and those poor sods in China are not aware of our exotic Chinese menu produced by our guys in good old Calcutta. It was a great let down. So now I have labelled our Chinese food of Calcutta as Chinbong food.
The picture above gives you an idea of food. By the way most of the restaurants are not having menu card. They are displayed like the pic below.

One need to simply point out the dish one wants to eat. The dish are sold by weights like say 250gms or so. They don't heap the food in their plate as we do,they simply pick up the items directly from the served plate by the chop sticks.

Lee was taking us around in the Quingdao city and also acted as our guide. By the way English speaking Chinese is a rare comodity,so Lee is one of those English knowing 28 years old bachelor Chinese. It seems in China the boy has to pay money to bride's father in order to get married.

I had gone on official duty to purchse turbine from Quingdao turbine factory. The cost is two third of popular brand in India. They are able to give at lower cost because of the following reasons;
1.High productivity of their workers.
2.The factory is not overstaffed and salaries are less. So the overhead is less.
3.Less excise duty.
4.Low level of wastage due to better quality of workmanship.
So my second apprehension of low quality was shattered.

They were quite forthright in showing us their manufacturing process. We were allowed to take photographs of various manufacturing process in the factory.There was no restriction at all.

Lee is a quite entertaining fellow, he is no way related to Jet Lee. There are posters of Jet Lee displaying various brands. Our own Lee made our life in China very smooth with his affable nature.

Quingdao is going to host Regatta in 2008 Olympic, the international airport of Quingdao was finished within a record time of one year. It is comparable to any international airport in all respects.

The sea beach is ready to host the Olympic regatta. The beach front is dotted with sculptures.
While going round the beach I could see people doing aerobic with the back ground song Macerena, there were people picking shells. They eat the shell by boiling those live.

The sea front is clean and having apartments like any European country. Surprisingly one does not see those milling billions of Chinese being the most populous coutry in the world.
The streets are spick and span.There are innumerable flyovers criss crossing on the highway. The interconnecting roads between the cities are top class. One can feel that there is some kind of governance there. They have international chains like Walmart,Carryfour,KFC,Mac Donald etc.

We could not see much of tourists though in Quingdao. May be the language could be one of the reasons, very few people can speak English. We could not see many old people in this city or in the airport of Quingdao. This city is full of youth dressed in black western attire.
During morning stroll in the beach could see the senior citizens doing excercise by the sea or catching fish like this gent below.

For our money equivalent of Rupees less than 3000 I had a delux suit with a massive bed room, a lounge and all other usual trappings with breakfast complementary,BHEL style.

They will be ready for the olympic by May,08. The honey comb structure of the main Olympic statdium in Beijing is ready with a small problem,there they have more squatting type of toilet than sitting type. The Chinese still prefer to use squatting type of toilet. This was the major flaw in the translation..ha ha ha..
