Koh Samui, Thailand

Ring Road. You drive around for 45 mins and chances are that you have reached the same spot from you have started out from. In the meantime, you have actually seen the entire island of Koh Samui.
I go there every year - twice. People call me 'names' for visiting the same place every year for the last 4 years.
But why do I actually go to Koh Samui every year?..is it the local Thai culture or is it the global village atmospherethis place gives me, which no other place in the world offers. Or is the crispy golden beers or the soft white sands. (I will not mention the bikini clad women. Almost all have a pure Brazilian tan over them!)
For the non-experts of geography, Koh Samui is a small mystical island off the main coast of Thailand. The best way to go there is to land in Bangkok and then take a connecting flight to Samui.
The journey takes about 40 mins between the light clounds that kiss your window and the mystical green waters underneath. The flight journey is almost magical from a world which takes 'work seriously' to a world which takes 'life seriously.'
My budget permits me to take the bus from Bangkok to Surat Thani and then reach Samui by boat. This time spent alone with your ipod is priceless.
People from every country in the world, mostly back packers - students, lawyers, accountants, carpenters, musicians- people from all walks of life. This motley mix of cultures and colours brings to life the atmosphere in Samui. Everybody's welcome.
Chweng Beach is the most popular night spot in the island, where the beers dont everstop flowing from the tap and where the 'boy girls' in brigtly coloured feathers greet (and sometimes pose for a photograph!) you with an 'ear-to-ear' smile. My favourite joint was a place ...???...??? well i actually loved each one of them..Coco Monkey, Irish Pub, Green mango..the list goes on. There's an Indian resturant named Ali Baba too.
Theeveing in Samuiends at 6:00 am. The body tires. But the spirit does not go down. Time to lay down in one of the many quite beach fronts. Bhoput Beach is my favorite. It is an oldfishermans village. It is relatively less crowded and less noisy than the other two popualr beaches - Chweng and Lamai. The beer still is flowing!
Want to explore further?..just hop on to the long tail boats which leave from Bohut to the nearby islands. Dont worry of getting lost. Even if you get lost and dont know how to come back to your hotel room...it does not matter. You are anyway on a holiday!
Koh Samui is the life I want to lead. There are no Blackberrys, no alarm clocks, no servant maids sweeping under your bed, no sms from your boss or the local bank about some attractive home loan rates....nothing. Absolute nothing.
The exit sign of Bhoput sums it all up: "MAY THE WIND BRING YOU BACK AGAIN"
