Our flight was on time and first class. The four and a half hours went rather quickly. We picked up our Nissan Murano and headed to our Holiday Inn Express Suite in Tacoma. We left on time at 8:00am to pick up the tent trailer from storage. We had to head to West Sacramento to drop the cat off at Wag Hotel and I was anxious about the traffic around downtown Sacramento since this was the first business day of the big I-5 closure. The traffic on the surface streets turned out to be about normal commute level. After passing Santa Rosa on highway 101, we were out of the urban areas and into the coastal range. Pacific Northwest Road Trip 2008

I have never slept so well as I have been sleeping since I arrived home from Seattle. The night I came home I slept until 1:00PM - a new record! I needed the sleep though. The flight back was a long one, with two layovers. I've been getting a lot done with my free time. I put down a carpet in my storage unit in the basement and cleaned the unit from top to bottom. After many months of planning and saving etc. we finally boarded our Martinair flight from Vancouver , <B>British</B> <B>Columbia</B> (Canada) to Amsterdam in The Netherlands. Martinair is a subsiduary of the famed Dutch airline KLM and we were very pleased with the great service, meals and flight crew personalities. Since this is a Dutch based airline, we felt like we were in Europe as soon as we got on the plane! We flew Alaska Air from Newark, NJ via Seattle to Vancouver. We used miles to buy the tickets otherwise would definitely recommend trying to fly direct non-stop. Getting through customs was absolute HELL. Everybody in the world decided to vacation in Vancouver on this exact day. It took one hour to finally get through. Booked reservation on Perimeter bus "Whistler Express" to Whistler ahead of time on their website. They were very organized and arranged the luggage by hotels and left on time. We have just about finished packing and the day has just about arrived for Garry and I to leave for our visit to the Pacific Northwest. The major highlight of our trip centers around these 2 pictured on the left, my daughter Melissa and her "signifigant other", Dan. They have just moved into their first apartment in Mukilteo, WA and we will be their first house guests! After spending the weekend with them exploring downtown Seattle and the "must see's" - Garry and I will travel north to Canada visiting Victoria and Vancouver. My flight left at 6:15 am this morning out of Monterey. It was actually busier than I've ever seen it at the Monterey Airport, but one hour was plenty of time to wait in line, check in, wait in the security line, and wait to board!
